Convenient and Efficient Transportation Options for Your Family Adventure
Even if you’re staying in Waikiki and most things are within walking distance, you’ll definitely want to explore the rest of the island. There are so many ways to get around Oahu: bike, moped, scooter, bus, car, and even by boat! We made it easy for you to decide!
Bike and Scooter Rentals
Better than walking around Honolulu is riding a bike with the whole family. The weather here makes it a year-round enjoyable experience. You can rent all kinds of bikes and scooters, segways, even 2 person scoot coupes! We recommend becoming familiar with the roads here first, though. And ALWAYS wear your helmet!!
Car Rentals & Services
One of the best things about driving in Hawaii is the beautiful scenery. However, the rules of the road are likely different than those in your previous state or country of residence. Hawaii state law requires that all car passengers–including those in the back seat–wear a seat belt at all times. Another law bans all use of handheld electronic devices while driving, although drivers 18 and older may use hands-free devices.
Take Da Bus!
About 30% of visitors use The Bus to get around Oahu, according to the state. It really is usually a great, cheap way to get around the island. For $7.50 a day or $80 for a monthly pass, you can’t beat it. Kids between the ages of 6 and 17 ride for only $3.00, and kids 5 and under are free! We recommend downloading DaBus and DaBus 2 apps on your phone; one has the schedule and route information and the other keeps track of reroutes, late buses, and cancellations.
Waikiki Trolley
Maybe the most enjoyable way to get around to most places on Oahu is on the Waikiki Trolley. They’re open air, comfortable, and go most of the places you’ll want to go anyway: all over Waikiki, Ala Moana, Honolulu, and even out to Hanauma Bay. Ride it all day for one flat price, and there’s a discount for children under 11!
