Hiking with waterfalls, a waterfront bike path, Asian supermarkets, and a state-of-the-art theatre: Pearl City has an abundance of entertainment options from the sea to the mountains for families with kids of all ages.
1. Waimano Loop Trail & Manana Trail
Starting off Waimano Home Road at the top of Pearl City, Waimano Loop Trail is considered an intermediate Oahu hike. Wander through the rainforests to discover pools, waterfalls, a ridge trail, and lava tubes. Bug spray and hiking boots are suggested!
Off Komo Mai Drive, Manana Trail is not for the beginner hiker. With fantastic, tranquil views, the Manana Trail is a challenging trail with a section called “cardiac hill.” It is a five-mile hike ending at Ko‘olau Range Summit. Manana Trail connects to the Waimano Trail, so hikers can have a dip in the pools underneath the waterfalls.
2. Pearl Harbor Bike Path
Starting just past the USS Arizona Memorial and Pearl Harbor Marina, the Pearl Harbor Bike Path goes along the makai side of Pearl City and ends at Waipio Point Access Road. This five-mile ride crosses wooden bridges and has some long straight stretches. Views include industrial areas, naval ships, and the stunning Hawaiian waters.
3. The Leeward Theatre
Located on the Leeward Community College campus, view a variety of groups perform plays, ballets, musicals, comedies, and pageants at the The Leeward Theatre. 96-045 Ala Ike
4. Oahu Urban Garden Center
Oahu Urban Garden Center is a unique and beautiful urban garden located in the heart of Pearl City. Explore the many gardens, including the rose, butterfly, labyrinth, and children’s gardens; learn more about the flora and fauna, or find a shady spot to relax. Free and family-friendly, be on the lookout for monthly events open to the public. 955 Kamehameha Highway
5. Don Quijote & H Mart
All the Japanese and Korean food favorites can be found in Pearl City. 850 Kamehameha Highway.
Don Quijote has all the Japanese – and other – groceries you need for those special recipes. Plus the prepared dishes, like sushi, and the household items (think Japanese house slippers and face masks) are not to be missed.
Located next door in Pearl City Shopping Center, H Mart is the go-to destination for Korean food. From aisles of kimchi and noodles to fresh fish and produce, H Mart is a place to see – if you want to be transported to Korea momentarily.
6. Waiau District Park
Pearl City is home to many community parks where keiki (children) can play and parents can picnic. Swimming pools, basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball fields, and more are available in Pearl City’s public parks. One of the most highly rated (and well-kept) parks is Waiau District Park. With multi-use fields, a large pavilion, and big, beautiful trees, this park is the perfect place to gather and enjoy Hawaii’s beautiful outdoors. 98-1650 Kaahumanu Street.
